Over 25 years experience working within the fine art field as a gallery owner, private dealer, advisor and auction house specialist of modern and contemporary art. Michael has had a diversified history of working with many of the most prominent artists of his generation, among them Diane Arbus, Jean Michel Basquiat, George Condo, Damien Hirst, Donald Judd, Robert Mapplethorpe, Agnes Martin, Vik Muniz, Yoshitomo Nara, Ed Ruscha, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Andy Warhol and many others.
As Director of 20th Century Art for Butterfield's Auctioneers, Michael gathered 150-200 works of art, twice annually for auctions conducted in San Francisco and Los Angeles. During the period that Butterfield's was owned by eBay, Michael conducted weekly online sales of lesser-valued artworks.
Currently, Michael conducts appraisals of fine art collections for insurance, equitable distribution of property and institutional donations. Among the institutions Michael has completed appraisals for are the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Guggenheim Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, the Los Angeles County Museum, The Portland Museum, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Hirschhorn Museum and many others.
